Our Beliefs

Welcome to Mount Vernon Baptist Church! It is a pleasure to share our beliefs with you at this time. We have summarized the Articles of Faith and Church Constitution and they are as listed as follows.

We believe the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired by heavenly instruction.  God is itís author and salvation for itís end.  It is true without error and reveals the principles by which God will judge us.  We are an independent, fundamental, missionary Baptist Church.

We believe there is only one living and true God.  The unity of the Godhead are three personís; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

We believe that we are sinners saved by grace when Christ made full atonement of our sins having died, risen from the dead and now waiting in Heaven for His children.  Salvation is free to all who believe and no one shall be rejected unless they themselves reject the Holy Spiritís calling.

We believe that Godís law is eternal and unchangeable.  We believe that a visible church of Christ is a congregation of Baptized believers associated by a covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel.  The only scriptural officers are pastors and deacons whose claims and duties are defined by the Epistles of Timothy and Titus.

We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion in water of a believer. With this immersion it compares to the death, burial and resurrection of our risen Savior.  We believe this is a prerequisite to the privileges of a church relation and the Lordís supper, in which members use sacred bread and wine to commemorate the dying love of Christ.  This is always preceded by solemn self-examination.

We believe that the first day of the week is the Lordís Day and is to be kept sacred for religious purposes.
We believe that the end of this world is soon approaching.  In the last day Christ will descent from Heaven and raise the dead from the grave to final retribution.  A solemn separation will take place and the wicked will be judged to endless punishment and the righteous to endless joy.  This judgment will forever stand whether it be in Heaven or in Hell.
